Environmental Management Program

Ottani’s Environmental Management Program (EMP) is a set of activities and management tools adopted to protect the environment, prevent pollution, and raise employee awareness about the importance of sustainability. Our commitment is to minimize the environmental and social impact of our operations through sustainable practices and a robust environmental management framework.

For Ottani, environmental management is a strategic issue, as it contributes not only to environmental preservation but also to cost reduction—such as water and energy consumption—and lowers legal risks. By raising awareness among employees, we work to ensure present and future quality of life.

Recyclers' Cooperative

Waste management

All waste generated by Ottani is classified according to its origin, type, composition, and hazardousness, receiving proper treatment and final destination. Recyclable materials are collected by the Recycling Cooperative of Piracicaba, while hazardous waste is sent to specialized companies authorized by CETESB. Non-recyclable waste is disposed of in the municipal landfill.

This proper waste management helps minimize environmental impact, promoting sustainability and environmental safety across our operations.

Water resource management

Due to the lack of public water supply in Ottani’s industrial area, we have implemented our own measures to ensure the availability of water. We use water supplied by tank trucks and collect rainwater, which is stored in cisterns with a total capacity of 146,000 liters—sufficient for our industrial operations.

Our Water Resource Management Program aims to ensure continuous water availability, optimize its use, and prevent waste.

Reduction of atmospheric emissions

Air emissions

To reduce the environmental impact caused by air emissions from Ottani’s vehicle fleet, we conduct an annual assessment of carbon sequestration efficiency in our heterogeneous reforestation areas.

The latest assessment estimated that our planted area was able to remove approximately 50 tons of carbon from the atmosphere, significantly contributing to offsetting CO₂ emissions for up to 28 years.

Environmental education

Environmental education is a core pillar at Ottani. We believe that raising awareness and training our team is essential for preserving both the workplace and the external environment.

We conduct lectures, ongoing discussions, and post information on environmental topics across our internal communication channels—encouraging employees to adopt more sustainable practices in their daily routines and become agents of change.

Planting of 8,000 tree seedlings

Since the implementation of our Environmental Management Program in 2017, Ottani has planted more than 8,000 tree seedlings, reinforcing our commitment to environmental preservation and reforestation.

This initiative aims to support the recovery of degraded areas and contribute to local biodiversity.
